Turn-based versus real-time on a touchscreen

Touchscreens are great at precise taps and terrible at fast, fiddly movement. That shapes which genres feel good on a phone.

Turn-based combat plays to the screen's strengths. You tap, you think, you tap again. Grid Tactician is a joy partly because nothing demands speed from your thumbs.

Real-time games can work, but they lean hard on good control design. Big buttons, forgiving timing and assist options go a long way. When a real-time game ignores that, your fingers cover the action you're trying to watch.

Neither is better overall. But if a developer insists on twitchy real-time play, they owe the player a thoughtful control layout. The ones that skip it end up uninstalled.
